Overview of the Stakeholder Consultation
On June 28, 2024, we conducted a significant stakeholder consultation for the PAI1 project, a pivotal step towards enhancing our community engagement and environmental stewardship. The meeting, conducted bilingually in Malay and English, provided a comprehensive platform for our stakeholders to understand the project details and contribute effectively.
Key Highlights and Resolutions from the Consultation
The agenda covered a range of critical topics from project activities and technological implementations to the socio-economic and environmental benefits of PAI1. Stakeholders were particularly keen on understanding how PAI1 would contribute to mitigating climate change effects, a testament to the community's vested interest in global environmental issues.
Key concerns raised during the Q&A session included:
Quantifying Carbon Reduction: Stakeholders questioned how we plan to measure carbon reduction and avoid greenwashing. We clarified that carbon reduction calculations would adhere to the Verra methodology, AMS-I.D., ensuring accuracy and transparency. Furthermore, external audits will help safeguard against greenwashing, ensuring our project's integrity.
Data Requirements: Questions about the type of data needed were addressed by specifying the necessity for electricity generation data from TNB bills and diesel consumption data, which are essential for accurate carbon accounting.
Data Confidentiality: Concerns regarding data confidentiality were alleviated by assurances that commercially sensitive data would remain undisclosed and managed in agreement with the project's management team.
Ensuring Workplace Safety and Compliance
It was affirmatively noted that all workers are protected under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and the Factories and Machinery Act 1967. The meeting also provided clarity on the validation and verification processes required by Verra and VVB, reinforcing our commitment to compliance and safety.
Moving Forward: Ongoing Communication and Engagement
As we move forward, continuous communication with our stakeholders remains a priority. We will maintain open lines through phone calls and emails, ensuring that all parties stay informed and involved in the project’s progress. This ongoing dialogue is crucial as it allows us to address any emerging concerns promptly and keeps the community engaged in our mutual goal of sustainable development.
Conclusion
The stakeholder consultation was not just a regulatory formality but a foundational step in building a robust relationship with our stakeholders based on trust, transparency, and mutual respect. As we continue to develop PAI1, we remain committed to these principles, ensuring that our project not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our community and environmental standards.
We are grateful for the enthusiastic participation and insightful feedback from all attendees, which are instrumental in guiding the project towards success. Let's continue this journey together, shaping a sustainable future for all.
